Obituary

V. Wayne Zook, 90, of Normal; formerly of Chenoa passed away at 2:15am Saturday, December 31, 2011 at Heritage Health, Normal.


Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 5, 2012 at Chenoa Cemetery, Chenoa with Pastor Don Crittenden officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 pm on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa.


Wayne was born December 4, 1921 in Lexington, IL; the son of Clarence E. and Lucille E. (Hayslip) Zook. He married L. Mardelle Ralston on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1945. She survives in Normal.

Also surviving are four children, Dennis (Janie) Zook, Barbara Elaine both of Cleburne, TX; Sharon Mitchell of Gilbert, AZ; David Zook of Kathleen, GA; seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

Wayne grew up on a farm north of Lexington, IL. He served with the United States Army Air Corps during WWII as a radio mechanic for B-29 bombers on Guam. He farmed with his brother Merle after the war for 45 years, establishing a home on the old Hayslip Farm 2 miles SE of Chenoa and raising four children.

Wayne was interested in traveling & camping throughout the United States, and achieved his life-long passion of getting his private pilot's certification. He was a life-long member of the Masonic lodge, The American Legion, and of the McLean County Farm Bureau. Wayne served as a Deacon and Elder in the Chenoa Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be directed to Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa or 2nd Presbyterian Church of Bloomington.
