Obituary

Velma Lee Barnett Christianson of Selmer, Tenn., formerly of Chenoa, died Thursday (Feb. 26, 2009) in Selmer, Tenn., at the age of 95 years, 6 months, 10 days.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa. A graveside service will be at noon Wednesday at Chenoa Cemetery, with Pastor Christian Ricker officiating. Shackelford Funeral Directors, Selmer, Tenn., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Christianson was born Aug. 16, 1913, in Campbellsville, Ky., the daughter of William Blain and Mary Liza Johnson Barnett.

Mrs. Christianson was born and raised in Campbellsville, Ky. After being married to Walter Lee on Dec. 30, 1931, they moved to Chenoa in 1934, Mr. Lee preceded her death on Aug. 19, 1955. Mrs. Christianson was a member of First Baptist Church in Chenoa. She made her home in the Chenoa area until 1974. When she married Richard Christianson on April 6, 1974, they moved to Lexington. After his death on March 14, 1996, she then made her home in Selmer, Tenn.

She is survived by two daughters, Ruth (Bruce) Rosenberger, Selmer, Tenn., and Ina (Dale) Cope, Vincennes, Ind.; two stepdaughters, Karen Christianson and Nina Christianson; a stepson, Rick Christianson; two sisters, Esther Roberts, Clinton, and Mary Kathryn Lawson, Campbellsville, Ky.; three brothers, Leonard Barnett and Richard Barnett, both of Campbellsville, Ky.; and Willard Ralph Barnett, Mount Washington, Ky.; seven grandchildren, Bonnie Cope Fowler, Georgia Rosenberger Jones, Teresa Cope Hoover, Anita Rosenberger Locke, Brenda Rosenberger Fugera, David Cope and Brian Rosenberger; nine great-grandchildren, Michael Hurt, Laura Grace Horner, Tyler Jones, Justin Locke, Sarah Jo Locke, Daniel Anthony, Brendan Fugera, Matthew Fugera and Greg Parrish; and two great-great-grandchildren, Crue Hurt and Hannah Grace Horner.

In addition to her husbands and parents, Mrs. Christianson was preceded in death by a grandson, Daniel Bruce Rosenberger; two sisters, Clara Brown and Mattie Lou Price; and three brothers, James Barnett, Huley Barnett and Everett (Dude) Barnett.
