Vernon Wahls, 88, of Pontiac and formerly of rural Chenoa, died at 10:00 pm, Saturday, January 8, 2011 at Evenglow Lodge, Pontiac.
His funeral service will be 11:00am Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chenoa with Pastor Jerry Koch officiating. Burial will be at Chenoa Cemetery, Chenoa. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, January 10, 2011 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa and 10:00 to 10:45 am Tuesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chenoa; VITAS Hospice, LaSalle, IL; or Evenglow Inn, Pontiac.
He was born April 7, 1922 to John C. and Grace Schuler Wahls of Chenoa. He married Loralee Hinds on December 5, 1948 in Pontiac, IL. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Jeff (Judy) Wahls, Chenoa; John (Vera) Wahls, Pontiac; one daughter, Jennifer Beizer, Conyers, GA; one granddaughter, Morgan (Jason) Adams; four grandsons, Jafer Beizer, Logan Beizer, Aaron Wahls, and Justin (Anna Lee) Wahls; and two great granddaughters, Audrey Adams and Ellen Wahls.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Ervin Wahls and one son, Jerry Wahls.
Vernon lived and farmed most of his life in Pike Township, Chenoa moving to Pontiac in 1981. He was a WWII veteran who had served with the 19th Supply Squadron of the Air Force. He formerly served on the Pike Township and Livingston County boards. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Chenoa and a life-time member of Pontiac Elk's Club. Vernon was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
