Obituary
Colfax – Virginia Downs, 94, of Colfax, passed away at 10:22pm, July 23, 2014 at Advocate BroMenn Regional Medical Center, Normal.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am, Thursday, August 7, 2014 at Arrowsmith Christian Church. Pastor Patti Meyer will be officiating.
Cremation has been accorded. Inurnment will take place at 3:00pm, also on Thursday at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington.
Virginia was born February 8, 1920, in Darby Township, PA the daughter of Robert and Mary Elizabeth Griffeth Frist.
She married George Wendell Downs on June 10, 1945. He died March 28, 1975.
Surviving are her sons, George (Sheila Kay) Downs of Colfax, Robert Downs, Jr of Victorville, CA and Eric Downs of Colfax; sister, Grace Frist-Greer of Aston, PA; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Stephen Downs; four sisters, Dorothy Fillman, Mary Elizabeth Chapman, Mabel Frame and Ruth Primm.
Virginia worked for Fells Laundry Soap Company for 1937-1945.
She also was a volunteer for Salvation Army.
