Obituary

Vivian E. Powell, 90 of Chenoa, passed away at 7:20 pm, Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, Chicago.

Her funeral will be 10:00 am, Monday, April 11, 2011 at the Chenoa Baptist Church, Chenoa with Pastor Christian Ricker officiating. Burial will follow in Chenoa Cemetery, Chenoa.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 pm, Sunday, April 10, 2011 at the Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Chenoa.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be directed to Chenoa Baptist Church or Meadows Mennonite Retirement Community, Chenoa.

Vivian was born August 31, 1920 in Chenoa the daughter of Leo James and Lettie (Henline) May. She married Claude M. Powell on May 17, 1942 in Bloomington. He passed away July 15, 1990.

Survivors include her children; Jody (Robert) Bertsche, Normal; T.J. (Nancy) Powell, Lexington; John (Vickie) Powell, Chenoa; Claudia (Tom) Hirt, Washington; one sister, Vauna Smith, Lexington; nine grandchildren, R.J. Bertsche, Mountain View, CA; Susan Bertsche, Denver, CO; Tammy (Jon) Kilgore, Pontiac; Kathleen Powell, Lexington; Michael Powell, Colfax; Jeremiah (Amy) Powell, Chenoa; Ashleigh (Nick) Feit, Normal; Erin Hirt, Springfield, VA; Justin Hirt, Baltimore, MD; and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Claude Richard Powell and one sister, Verneil Leake.

Vivian was a 1938 graduate of Chenoa High School, a member of Chenoa Baptist Church and was employed as the Production Manager for International Tapetronics, Bloomington for many years. She enjoyed sewing, piecing quilts, reading and spending time with her family who will miss her deeply.
