Obituary

Walter Dennis Edelman, 75, Fairbury, died at 5:54 am Tuesday, April 30, 2024 at his residence, Fairbury.

His funeral service will be held at 10:00 am Friday, May 3, 2024 at the Apostolic Christian Church, Fairbury with ministers of the church officiating. Burial will be in the South Apostolic Christian Cemetery, rural Fairbury with full military rites accorded by the Fairbury VFW and American Legion posts.

Visitation will be 2:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, May 2, 2024 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and 9:00 to 9:45 am Friday at the church.  The family suggests memorials be given to Southeast Livingston County Ambulance Service (SELCAS) or the charity of the donor's choice.

Walter was born August 2, 1948 in Sabetha, KS the son of Levi Edelman Sr. and Lena Lehman.  He married Rosetta June Walter on April 11, 1970 in Fairbury, IL.  She survives in Fairbury.

Other survivors include their children, Mark (Karie) Edelman, Fairbury, Dean Edelman, Muscatine, IA, Walter (Janelle) Edelman Jr., Mahomet, Russell (Alyssa) Edelman, Morton, Jason (Olivia) Edelman, Normal, Lisa Edelman, Normal and Lori (Nic) Roth, Forrest, fourteen grandchildren, one brother, Robert (Mary) Edelman, three sisters, Kathryn Fehr, Ella Marie Edelman, and Rosalie Edelman, all of Fairbury.

He is preceded in death by six brothers, Willard, Vernon, Levi, Edward, Fred, and Albert, two sisters, Mary Ann Bolliger and Alice Stork, son-in-law, Chad Welborn and grandchildren, Emma, Maxwell, and Miles Edelman.

Walter served in the United States Army from 3/21/1968 to 3/20/1970.  He received his Basic and Medical training at Ft. Sam, Houston, TX.  He served in the Vietnam Conflict as a 91b20 Spec 5 combat medic where he earned the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Purple Heart Medal; Bronze Star Medal; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm.

Walter was employed at Daves Supermarket in Fairbury for 50 years.  He along with his wife Rosie owned and operated Edelman Auction Service for 30 years.  In his retirement, Walter enjoyed driving truck, hauling grain, coffee with his friends from the community, and serving in the local Honor Guard.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandpa who loved the Lord and was a member of the Fairbury Apostolic Christian Church.
