Walter G. Teubel, 84, a life-time Fairbury resident, died at 5:05pm October 8, 2013 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury, IL, where he had made his home since 2007. He thoroughly enjoyed his years there and was very thankful for his excellent care.

His funeral will be at 1:00pm Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the Christian Apostolic Church, Forrest, IL with church ministers officiating. Burial will follow in Avoca Twp. Cemetery, rural Fairbury. The visitation will be from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm Saturday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury.

Walter was born on May 7, 1929, Fairbury, the son of Karl and Anna Kaeb Teubel. He married Mabel Ifft on November 20, 1955 in Fairbury. She preceded him in death on July 6, 1994.

Survivors include three daughters, Anna (Bill) Schmidgall, Fairbury, Barbara (Tim) Slagel, Washington, IL, and Elsie (Mark) Sinn, Silverton, OR, four sons, John (Lavonne) Teubel, Forrest, IL, Phil (Kay) Teubel, Salem, OR, Edwin (Melanie) Teubel, and Nathan (Jennifer) Teubel, both of Fairbury. Also surviving are thirty grandchildren and he was "Grandpa Great" to nine great-grandchildren. A brother and sister preceded him in death as well as an infant son, James Allen.

Walter was a farmer in the Fairbury area for most of his life and upon retiring spent years as a bus driver and security guard. He also enjoyed volunteering at OSF St. James Hospital in Pontiac, IL and at Fairview Haven. Walter loved being with people and never met a stranger. He was a member of the Christian Apostolic Church of Forrest, IL.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Fairview Haven Good Samaritan Fund or the Christian Apostolic Church of Forrest.
