Coflax - WAYNE E. SUTTON, 89 of Colfax, formerly of El Paso, IL died peacefully on Thurs. night, May 12, 2011 at Asta Care Center of Coflax.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Friday, May 20, 2011 at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, El Paso. Fr. Roger Corpus will be officiating and military honors will be provided by the El Paso American Legion Post #59 and L. Percy Tucker VFW Post 6026.
Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Colfax is in charge of arrangements.
The family suggests that memorials may be made to Lyle R. Sutton Memorial Scholarship Fund of Ridgeview High School c/o Anchor State Bank, Anchor, IL 61720.
Wayne was born July 10, 1921 in El Paso, IL, the eighth of nine children of James and Maude Stephens Sutton.
He married Marge Fullenberger of El Paso. She died April 18, 1998.
He is survived by brother; Robert, Troy, OH and several nieces and nephews.
Three brothers, Donald, Raymond and Lyle and four sisters, Josephine, Marjorie, Evelyn and Catherine and his parents preceded him in death.
Wayne was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Army's First Division (Big Red One--26th Infantry) and was awarded the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and several other commendations for valor in action during the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a life-long member of American Legion Post #59, El Paso, IL, the L. Percy Tucker VFW Post 6026 and Disabled American Veterans.
