Wesley E. Bender, 83, Fairbury died at 7:13 pm Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington
Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, Fairbury with the Rev. Charles McDonald officiating. Interment will be in the Chatsworth Cemetery with full military rites conducted by the Fairbury VFW and American Legion Posts.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and 9:30 to 10:15 am Saturday at the church. The family suggests memorials be given to the First United Methodist Church, Fairbury or the American Heart Association.
Mr. Bender was born May 18, 1926 in Forrest, IL the son of Jacob and Martha Elizabeth Bachtold Bender. He married Bernice I. Cohernour June 27, 1954 in Chatsworth, IL. She survives in Fairbury.
Also surviving are two sons, Gary Bender, Bentonville, AR; Jeffrey (Betty) Bender, Lexington, IL; one daughter, Karen (Dean) Bleich, Buckley, IL; one brother, Marvin Bender, Fairbury; three sisters, Alice Teubel, Fairbury; Elizabeth Mae (Charles) Arnold, Mansfield, Ohio; Florence (Don) Rinkenberger, Fairbury; six grandchildren; two great granddaughters; and his first great grandson who will arrive in September.
He is preceded in death by three brothers, twin infant brothers and one sister.
Mr. Bender was a lifetime farmer in the Strawn area retiring in 2000.
