Obituary

Towanda -Wilbur Dean Hofmann, 92, of Towanda, died at 12:20 am, Saturday, September 20, 2025 at Fairview Haven Retirement Community, Fairbury.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Bloomington-Normal Apostolic Christian Church with ministers of the church officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:30 pm, in Chenoa Township Cemetery, Chenoa; with military funeral honors. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury, has charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be 4 to 7:00pm, Wednesday, September 24, 2025 at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury and 10 to 10:45am prior to the funeral service on Thursday at the church in Bloomington-Normal. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to DAV, Disabled American Veterans. https://help.dav.org/.

Mr. Hofmann was born December 30, 1932 in Fairbury, a son of Ernest and Esther (Sutter) Hofmann. He married Jeanne Scott on April 24, 1960 in Chenoa.  His wife, Jeanne survives in Towanda.

Also surviving are three children, Julie (Mark) McMath of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Jeff Hofmann of Towanda; Jon (Kay) Hofmann of Gridley; four sisters, Delores Headley of Fairbury; Erna Lou Kelly of Inverness, FL; Janet Steidinger of Pontiac; Ida (Wayne) Ziller of Fairbury; two brothers, Ernie Hofmann of Fairbury; Dallas Hofmann of Downs; brother in-law, Bill Scott of California; eight grandchildren, Ashley and Alyssa McMath, Scott Hofmann; Hannah (Jarrin) Landrus, Madison (Ryan) Filkins, Conner (Kylee) Kaupp, Carson (Kailyn) Hofmann, Grayson Hofmann; six great-grandchildren, Ridge, Sutton, Wrenly & Slate Landrus, Stetson McMath and Iyla Hofmann.

Wilbur was preceded in death by his parents, three brother in-laws, Kenneth Headley, Bill Kelly & Richard "Dick" Steidinger, two sister in-laws, Carolyn Hofmann & Patricia Hofmann.

He was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church of Bloomington-Normal. He served our country in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt. He was injured and medically disabled in his service to the United States.  Wilbur never let his disability get him down but continued to do what he could and do it to the best of his ability.  He was employed by Illinois State University for many years; managing the food service department.  He enjoyed wood working in his spare time and loved spending time with his family, who will miss him deeply.
