Willis L. "Willie" Harris, 84, formerly of Fairbury, passed away at 9:43 am, Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at Lagrange Memorial Hospital, Lagrange, IL.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial graveside service will take place at 11 am, Wednesday, September 14, 2011 in Graceland Cemetery, Fairbury with full military rites conducted by the Fairbury American Legion and VFW. Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury is in charge of arrangements.
Willie was born August 26, 1927 in Fairbury the son of Willis and Josephine VanOppen Harris.
Survivors include two sisters, Carole Mulliken of Bloomington and Twyla Legner of El Paso; one brother, Bernard Harris of El Paso; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and two brothers.
The family suggests that memorials be directed to Fairbury American Legion Post #54 or Fairbury VFW Post #9789.
He was a lifetime area resident and graduate of Fairbury High School. He worked at the Fairbury Post Office and Fairbury –Cropsey High School as a well liked custodian. Willie also worked for the City of Fairbury on Street Maintenance and the Water Dept.
Willie was a veteran of the United States Army serving time in Korea. He was a member of the Fairbury American Legion Post #54 and Fairbury VFW Post #9789. He loved nature and was an avid hunter, fisherman and collected Indian artifacts. He will now rest where his life began.
