Wilma Jean Harms, 87, of rural Fairbury died at 7:15 A.M. on Tuesday (Oct. 21, 2008) at Heritage Manor, Colfax, after a brave battle with cancer.
Her funeral will be at 10:30 A.M. Friday, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Colfax, with Pastor Connie Frase officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, Fairbury, and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
Mrs. Harms was born March 24, 1921, in Lawndale Township, McLean County, the daughter of Ben and Catherine Ficken Winterland. She married John E. Harms on November 11, 1945, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. He survives. She is also survived by a daughter, Diane (George) Mulkey, Gainesville, GA, and two sons, Norman (Karen) Harms and Kevin (Louann) Harms of Fairbury.
She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Scott (Kathryn) Mulkey, Roswell, GA, Angie (Phil) Kratochvil, Fairbury, Daniel (Tracy) Harms, Fairbury, Ryan (Breanne) Harms, Shawnee, KS, Matthew (Lisa) Harms, Fairbury, Amy (Trey) McGowan, Atlanta, GA, Leslie (Mike) Garthaus, Normal, and Rebecca (Kent) Casson, Fairbury. Also surviving are eleven great-grandchildren, Ainsley, Ashlyn, and Acer Kratochvil, Claire, Elise, and Mary Harms Mulkey, Parker and Tyler Harms, Carter and Addison Harms, and Grace Garthaus.
Also surviving are one sister, Fern Ummel Smith, Anchor, three brothers, Glenn (Barbara) Winterland and Robert (Virginia) Winterland, Colfax, and Lowell (Betty) Winterland, Fairbury, one sister-in-law, Louise Winterland, Colfax, and one aunt, Helen (Merlin) Lage, Colfax. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Dale Winterland.
Mrs. Harms was a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was active in the family grain and dairy farm for many years. She will be remembered for her pleasant, friendly conversations with all. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she will be dearly missed by her family and many friends.
